Regrettably, with Spring in full bloom unfortunately comes bicycle crashes.  Tragically, 2 people from our community just lost their lives and another person was injured.  A cyclist in Rockland and in Westchester both died when struck by cars.  Please be safe and enjoy your ride.

Palisades Center Mall Crash

Sadly, a crash between a bus and an ambulette has left 1 killed and 4 injured.  According to early news accounts, the ambulette, associated with Friendship Adult Day Care Center, was making a left turn from the mall into the main roadway when the crash occurred.  Left turning vehicles are generally presumed to be a cause of an accident.  Condolences to all.

Nursing Home and Fewer Options

Sales seem to be sweeping across the region.  The net result will be less choice, and quite likely declining care.  Who will get affected the most; not surprising, those with limited incomes.  Whether in Yonkers, Valhalla, or elsewhere, these sale are and will result in layoffs.  That means less care and more neglect.  Hopefully, this trend will not only stop but will be reversed.

Medical Malpractice Insurance Profits Continue

9 years and counting; medical malpractice insurance companies continue to make profits.  As well they should.  We live in a capitalist society and these companies are in business to make money.  Lots and lots of money.
Just when they are disingenuous, or worse, that is wrong.  For example, claiming that there is a "medical malpractice" crisis in this Country.  There own reporting proves this is a canard.

“The report also states that while it isn’t possible to quantify the benefits of tort reform on claims frequency and severity, caps on non-economic damages, restrictions on joint and several liabilities, affidavits of merit, non-admissibility of apologies, shortened statutes of limitations and reductions in vicarious liabilities, these do not appear to have had a positive impact in the various states that have adopted these reforms (emphasis supplied).”

Orchard Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Medina

Once again, this facility has been accused of abuse and neglect of its residents.  These latest allegations have been made while the facility is still under investigation by the New York State Department of Health.  In fact, one current employee reportedly has acknowledged that 1 worker, at times, cares for 40 residents.  Appalling.
